Emirates will launch service between Milan and New York on Oct. 1.

The flight will be an extension of one of Emirates’ three daily, Dubai-Milan flights. The service will originate in Dubai and stop in Milan before flying to New York Kennedy.

“Operating a transatlantic route has been on our agenda for some time,” Emirates President Tim Clark said in a statement. “Having carefully monitored traffic flows, we have identified strong demand for both a direct connection and, importantly, for the Emirates product.”

Emirates will deploy its Boeing 777-300ER on the route, offering eight seats in first class, 42 in business and 310 in economy.

Emirates said it would utilize partnerships with JetBlue and EasyJet to enable customers to connect with flights in the U.S. and Europe, respectively.

Clark called the Milan-New York route “underserved,” even though three airlines — American, Delta and Alitalia — fly it.
