Barbados-based Redjet suspended all flights on Friday due to financial problems, less than a year after launching service. Redjet began flying last May.

The regional airline flew to Jamaica (Kingston), Trinidad, Guyana, St. Lucia and Antigua, and had planned to start St. Maarten service on May 19.

CEO Ian Burns said Redjet “does not receive any assistance, unlike the heavily subsidized airlines that serve the region.”

Burns is hopeful that if the carrier receives assistance, it would resume operations.

Redjet customers will be offered refunds or the option to travel with Redjet upon resumption of service, according to Burns.

Antigua-based LIAT is helping accommodate Redjet passengers on its flights.
