JetBlue remains profitable in third quarter

JetBlue Airways reported a third-quarter net profit of $45 million, up $10 million from a year earlier, its "tenth consecutive quarter of profitability," according to CEO Dave Barger.

The carrier had the largest quarterly passenger revenue percentage increase among the seven major U.S. carriers, up nearly 10% from last year to $1.2 billion.

JetBlue also posted the largest traffic gain and capacity increase among the majors, up 8.9% and 8.6%, respectively.

While its passenger unit revenue and yield each edged upward by about 1%, its third-quarter average fare slipped by 0.5% to $154.04.
