Lufthansa and JetBlue have signed a codeshare agreement that is expected to go into effect on or about Oct. 8, pending U.S. Department of Transportation approval.

Codeshare flights would go on sale at the end of September, Lufthansa said. However, JetBlue's sales through ARC aren’t scheduled to start until January.

JetBlue flights to Buffalo, Syracuse and Rochester, N.Y.; Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers and West Palm Beach, Fla.; Pittsburgh; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; Austin, Texas; New Orleans; and San Juan would be offered under the Lufthansa code. Passengers heading to those destinations would fly initially with Lufthansa from Frankfurt and Munich to New York or Boston.

JetBlue customers traveling from those U.S. cities to New York and Boston would be able to connect with Lufthansa flights to Germany.

Lufthansa owns a 15.6% stake in JetBlue.
