Bobby Booth, 84, aviation expert

Bobby Booth, widely acknowledged as an expert on Latin American aviation and travel, died following surgery for a broken hip. He was 84.

At the time of his death he was the chairman of AvGroup, a Miami consultancy specializing in Latin American aviation, and the publisher of AirWaves, an electronic newsletter.

A native of Brazil, he began his career as a ticket agent for Pan Am in Uruguay and eventually became corporate vice president of sales, based in Dallas.

In the 1970s and '80s, he worked with a succession of new entrant airlines, serving, among other roles, as senior vice president of marketing for Air Florida and CEO of Challenge Air International.

The recipient of a number of awards, he was honored in 2012 by Boeing and the Latin American Airline Association for his contributions to the development of the Latin American airline industry.
