SkyTeam eyes opening of new Heathrow facility

By Jerry Limone

SkyTeam said its new facility at London Heathrow's Terminal 4 will open Nov. 5.

The facility includes a check-in area exclusively for first- and business-class passengers, premium economy passengers and elite-level flyers.

All SkyTeam members in the terminal will share airport services, including check-in desks, self-service kiosks and bag drop-off locations.

By early 2010, SkyTeam said passengers will be able to access travel reservations with any of the eight SkyTeam carriers serving Heathrow at kiosks throughout the terminal.

Also, SkyTeam said it will open the second level of its Heathrow lounge on Nov. 9. Services on the second level will include a quiet room with daybeds, two VIP rooms and a children's area with games and television.

The first floor, which opened in June, has a wine bar, oxygen bar and massage chairs.

SkyTeam members include Delta, Air France, KLM, Alitalia and Aeromexico.
