Southwest and its subsidiary AirTran will launch 11 new domestic routes on June 3, and have filed applications for four Mexico routes.

From Baltimore-Washington, AirTran will fly to Seattle and Los Angeles twice daily, and New Orleans and San Francisco once daily.

AirTran will launch twice-daily service between Denver and New York LaGuardia. Also, AirTran will operate daily service from Denver to two Ohio cities: Akron and Dayton.

Southwest will begin daily service from Houston Hobby to Seattle, Kansas City and Raleigh, N.C., and will link Chicago Midway and Oklahoma City with a daily flight.

Also in June, AirTran will cancel service to five cities: Washington Dulles; Miami; Bloomington, Ind.; Charleston, W.V.; and Knoxville, Tenn. AirTran currently operates three daily flights between Washington Dulles and its Atlanta hub.

In addition to the domestic flights, AirTran plans to launch four flights to Mexico destinations, pending government approval.

AirTran intends to fly from San Antonio to Cancun and Mexico City, beginning in May. In June, AirTran plans to serve Cabo San Lucas and Mexico City from John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif.

On the San Antonio-Mexico City route, AirTran would compete with SkyTeam partners Delta and Aeromexico; AirTran would be the only carrier serving the other three routes.

On May 24, AirTran will begin twice-daily service between Fort Lauderdale and San Juan, competing with JetBlue and Spirit Airlines on the route.
