Spirit Airlines will add nonstop service to four more cities from Dallas-Fort Worth, and will launch Fort Lauderdale service from Baltimore/Washington.

Also, Spirit has filed with the Department of Transportation to serve Cancun from DFW.

Daily service from DFW to Baltimore/Washington begins Sept. 6, and twice-daily service to Houston (Bush Intercontinental) starts Sept. 20. Spirit will compete with American on both routes and United on the DFW-Houston route.

Daily service to two California cities — Los Angeles and Oakland — begins April 25. On the Los Angeles flight, Spirit will compete with American, United Express and Virgin America.

Spirit will have Oakland service to itself. The flight to Oakland is a late-night flight, and the return flight to DFW is a red-eye.

Spirit began serving DFW in May 2011 and will serve 20 destinations from the airport if it receives permission to add Cancun service.

Twice-daily Baltimore-Fort Lauderdale service begins Sept. 6. Spirit will take on Southwest on the route.
