Supreme Court upholds DOT authority on fare ad rules

The Supreme Court ruled against airlines challenging Department of Transportation requirements that airlines include taxes in advertised prices of their fares.

The court refused to review the challenge, filed by Spirit Airlines last summer and supported by Southwest Airlines and Allegiant Air. That means the DOT rules remain in effect.

The ruling also leaves in place the rule that gives consumers a 24-hour grace period to change their mind on tickets they’ve purchased, even when that ticket is nonrefundable.
