Amtrak extended its Northeast Regional service south to Norfolk, Va., eliminating a bus connection from Newport News.
The Norfolk extension makes possible a “same-seat” trip to Richmond, Washington and points north.
Norfolk had been without intercity passenger rail service since 1977.
