Hertz is nearing a $2.5 billion deal to acquire Dollar Thrifty, according to reports on Sunday evening.

Reports also indicate that the Federal Trade Commission is poised to approve the deal because Hertz has agreed to sell Advantage Rent-A-Car to Franchise Services of North America and Macquarie Capital.

Hertz has been trying to acquire Dollar Thrifty for the past two-plus years. Dollar Thrifty pushed for a resolution about a month ago, asking Hertz for a “compelling offer to be made or for this process to come to a close so that the company can move forward under its stand-alone plan without the constant distraction of merger speculation.”
