Ray LaHood has decided not to serve a second term as secretary of transportation, LaHood announced in the Department of Transportation’s
FastLane blog.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to lead the Department, and I am grateful to President Obama for giving me such an extraordinary opportunity," LaHood stated. "I plan to stay on until my successor is confirmed to ensure a smooth transition for the Department and all the important work we still have to do.”
LaHood said the DOT under his watch “strengthened consumer protections with new regulations on buses, trucks and airlines.”
He also mentioned investments in the NextGen air transportation system and high-speed rail as achievements during his tenure.
