The U.S. Transportation Security Administration said it will solicit commercial solutions to expedite passage through airport security lanes, as it continues to expand its PreCheck trusted-traveler initiative.

TSA through April 1 will accept proposal white papers for concepts that "could be implemented in a prototype to identify known travelers prescreened to a high degree of confidence."

The call for voluntary prescreenings of U.S. citizens is reminiscent of the defunct Registered Traveler program.

TSA indicated it would review submitted proposal papers through Dec. 31.
