The Best Western Premier Petion-Ville, the first Best Western Premier in the Caribbean, opened last week in Haiti.
The March 28 opening marked what Dallas-based Aimbridge Hospitality, which opened the hotel along with Haiti-based Carabimmo SA and Best Western International, called "the first full–service corporate U.S. brand hotel to open in Haiti."
The $15 million, seven-story hotel has 106 guest rooms and three executive and imperial suites.
Amenities include WiFi, 42-inch flat-screen TVs, 2,000 square feet of meeting space that can accommodate from six to 160 guests, a pool, a full-service spa and gym, and concierge service.
The hotel has French-inspired restaurant Le Michel, a whiskey bar and room service.
“We are very excited and privileged to open the newest full-service hotel on the beautiful island of Haiti,” Aimbridge's senior vice president of Caribbean operations and development, Rich Cortese, said in a statement.
Cortese said that most of the hotel's 95 employees are local residents, along with "a seasoned management staff".
Aimbridge said the hotel is designed for the business traveler but would also cater to leisure travelers.
The company said the location, Petionville, is a "chic upmarket suburb" of Port-au-Prince "resplendent with boutiques, restaurants and European character," with "pristine and undeveloped virgin beaches as close as one hour from the new hotel."
The hotel features Haitian design, including art, photography, design works and fabrics made by local Haitian artisans and students. The artwork can be purchased, with proceeds benefiting a local foundation for the rebuilding of Haiti.
