Brazil will see the opening of 45 hotels this year, followed by another 85 in 2014, according to statistics released this week at the World Travel Market Vision Conference in Sao Paulo.

The 130 new hotels will total about 22,000 rooms.

Euromonitor International, a market research firm, said the hotel-building boom was being driven by demand for the world's two largest sporting events, the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, as well as from an increase in domestic travelers.
