Caribbean group launches resource for hotel data

By Gay Nagle Myers

The Caribbean hospitality industry has gained a new resource with the launch of the Data Center by the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association.

Hotel statistics for the region typically have been absent, out of date or under-reported.

CHTA’s members-only data center features destination-specific statistics on hotel occupancy, revenue per available room and visitor arrivals from member hotel associations. The data center also has monthly reports on lodging performance and arrivals from Smith Travel Research and the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

There’s a section on research, surveys and presentations, including the June 2009 World Travel and Tourism Council Economic Impact Study for Caribbean Tourism, a Travelocity Consumer Confidence study and benchmarking data comparing the Caribbean with other warm-weather destinations.

"As the voice of the Caribbean’s private tourism sector, it is our goal to provide a single resource for statistical information, studies and presentations relating to the region," said Enrique De Marchena Kaluche, CHTA president.

Dues-paying members, including hotels, hotel associations and organizations doing business in the Caribbean, are required to enter their log-in information before they can access the data center.
