Commune coming to Cabo

By Gay Nagle Myers
El ArcoThere’s a new hotel brand coming to Cabo San Lucas from a new hotel company called Commune Hotels & Resorts, formed last October by the merger of the luxury lifestyle Thompson Hotels brand and Joie de Vivre, a collection of more than 30 independent hotels.

At the time of the merger, Commune said it was focused on global expansion, and true to its word, it has since debuted high-profile projects in London, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Palm Springs, Calif.

Management contracts have been signed with hotels under development in Chicago, Honolulu and Palo Alto, Calif.

The Cabo property represents the company’s debut in Mexico and an opportunity to attract the leisure market, according to Stephen Brandman, Thompson Hotels co-founder and CEO of parent company Commune Hotels & Resorts.

Slated to open in 2014, the Thompson Cabo San Lucas will offer 114 guestrooms, 60 condominium units and views of El Arco (the Arch), signature landmark of Cabo.
