San Antonio’s Emily Morgan Hotel is now a DoubleTree by Hilton franchise, following a $4.5 million renovation.
The 177-room Emily Morgan has added high-definition televisions to its rooms and upgraded its bathrooms, among other improvements. The hotel, which is located just steps from the Alamo, has 4,500 square feet of meeting space.
The building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, was constructed in 1924 as the Medical Arts Building before being converted into an office building in 1976, and then the Emily Morgan Hotel eight years later.
The hotel is named for an indentured servant who, according to legend, was considered key in Texas’ victory for independence from Mexico at the Battle of the Alamo in 1836.
Captured by the Mexican army at the site of the Alamo, Emily Morgan was said to have helped Texas by having sex with Mexican general Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna at the time of the Texas attack. Follow Danny King on Twitter @dktravelweekly.
