Occupancy at Western ski resorts was up slightly in February and bookings continue to pick up, according to the latest data from the Mountain Travel Research Program.

The report showed that February 2010 year-over-year occupancy was up 2.7% compared with February 2009. That put lodging occupancy into positive territory for the ski season, although just barely at 0.03% ahead of last year.

The average daily room rate, however, was down 6.6%.

Reservations for arrival through July were up 12.7% compared to 2009, a continuation of the stronger pace seen in most of the past few months.

“With the end of season in sight and anecdotal reports indicating decent bookings in March, we remain optimistic that the season will finish with better overall occupancies than last year,” said Ralf Garrison, director of the Mountain Travel Research Program.
