Grenada resort LaSource to close its doors

By Gay Nagle Myers

LaSource-closingLaSource Grenada is expected to close at noon on Oct. 15, due to financial difficulties.

The resort has issued a stop-sell order on all bookings.

The 100-room resort on Pink Gin Beach is owned by Liberty Club Ltd., a company headed by developer Leon Taylor.

LaSource hired Elite Island Resorts in 2010 to provide marketing and representation services.

"We are saddened and disappointed that the owners of the resort were not able or willing to do more to keep LaSource open," said Steve Heydt, president of Elite Island Resorts. "Unfortunately, Elite does not own or manage LaSource, and we are at the whim of the resort’s ownership, along with tour operators and guests who may be negatively affected."

LaSource was heavily damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. There were delays in renovations and repairs due to insurance problems.

The property reopened in February 2008.
