Hayman resort shows off an original von Furstenberg

Hayman DVF PenthouseIncreasingly, a hallmark of high-end hotels looking to stand out from the crowd is a decor that goes beyond mere luxury. Many of today's well-heeled clients want a hotel experience that is both unique and exclusive. One way properties are fulfilling that wish is by bringing in nontraditional interior designers to create one-of-a-kind guestrooms.

The Meurice in Paris, for example, boasts furnishings by Philippe Starck, perhaps best known for his product designs, while the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York was largely decorated by artist Julian Schnabel. And the Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki boasts a Hawaiian Islands-inspired suite decorated by world-renowned bridal gown designer Vera Wang.

A new entry into this rarified club is Hayman, a private island resort on Australia's Whitsunday Islands, which brought in fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg to create the DVF Penthouse.

The two-bedroom penthouse, which was unveiled Oct. 27, features custom furnishings upholstered in von Furstenberg's line of fabrics, and the overall look will showcase her signature colorful style.

Other features of the suite will include a private balcony overlooking the resort's beach and the Great Barrier Reef beyond as well as a freestanding stone bathtub in the master bath, butler service and all meals.

As for fashionistas, no word yet on whether von Furstenberg, named the most powerful woman in fashion by Forbes Magazine, will fashion the hotel bathrobes after her famous wrap dress, but we're sure it would be a hit.

The DVF suite rates start at about $5,616 per night.
