Hyatt hotel opens in French Quarter

By Danny King
HyattFrenchQuarter-roomThe Hyatt French Quarter opened in New Orleans on Tuesday in what was formerly the Chateau Bourbon Wyndham.

Developers Carey-Watermark Investors and HRI Properties invested $18 million renovating the 254-room property, including upgrades to its exterior, lobby and pool area.

A 10,000-square-foot Hard Rock Cafe will open at the hotel early next year.

Hyatt Hotels Corp., which has two other hotels in New Orleans, is betting on a market that appears to be on the rebound.

For the first quarter, New Orleans trailed only Nashville among the fastest-growing U.S. hotel markets in terms of revenue per available room (RevPAR). New Orleans’ first-quarter RevPAR jumped 17% from a year earlier, according to Smith Travel Research.

Hyatt also has a Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Place in New Orleans.
