Kimpton buys Canary Hotel in Santa Barbara

By Danny King
CanaryHotel-rooftopterraceKimpton Hotels & Restaurants has acquired the Canary Hotel and Coast restaurant in Santa Barbara.

The 97-room hotel, which opened in 2004, has a rooftop facility that can host private events. The property is one block from State Street, Santa Barbara’s main drag.

Kimpton declined to disclose the purchase price, though the Pacific Coast Business Times said it sold for $40 million.

The acquisition is Kimpton’s second this year. The company recently bought the 84-room RiverPlace Hotel in Portland, Ore.

Kimpton operates more than 55 hotels across the U.S., some under the Monaco and Palomar brands. The Canary is Kimpton’s 15th hotel in California.
