Europe’s first Edition hotel, which partners Marriott International and boutique hotelier Ian Schrager had slated to open in London later this year, will debut this fall with 173 rooms in what was formerly the Berners Hotel.
The hotel will have a restaurant, dance club and fitness center.
The property, which was first built as a group of townhouses in 1835 before becoming the Berners Hotel in 1908, is located in London’s Fitzrovia district.
Marriott and Schrager are looking to reboot a brand that was first announced in 2007 but has been beset by a travel downturn and management issues. Marriott and Schrager have just one Edition hotel, a 74-room property in Istanbul.
Marriott and Schrager early last year said five more Edition-branded hotels would open by 2015, including the London hotel as well as properties in New York, Abu Dhabi, Bangkok and Miami Beach.
Additionally, Marriott earlier this year acquired a property in West Hollywood, Calif., which also is slated to be an Edition.
