New York's Carlton Hotel joins Autograph Collection

By Arnie Weissmann
Carlton HotelThe Carlton Hotel in midtown Manhattan will convert from Preferred Hotels to Marriott’s Autograph Collection on Thursday.

Jeff McIntyre, a founding partner of Gemstone Hotels & Resorts, which manages the hotel, said bookings will be accepted in GDSs using Preferred’s Summit label until midnight Thursday.

Kip Vreeland, Autograph Collection's vice president, said that the Carlton will be the 27th hotel in the portfolio, and that the 28th, the Union Station in Nashville, will end its affiliation with Wyndham on Friday.

He said that by mid-March, the number of Autograph Collection hotels will break into the 30s, with properties coming on line in New Orleans and South Beach, Fla.

Vreeland declined to say which properties they were, but said, “There could, in fact, be more than one Autograph in one of those markets. You never know — it could happen.”

Marriott launched Autograph — a collection of independent boutique and luxury hotels — in 2010.
