Palm Island moves up reopening date

By Danny King
Palm Island, the private island resort in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, bumped up its reopening date to Jan. 15.

The resort was shut down Christmas Eve because its electric generator caught fire.

“Palm Island’s management and staff have been working quickly to obtain new electrical generators and restore power to the island,” the resort said in a statement Friday. “Based on their efforts, Palm Island is now scheduled to reopen on Jan. 15.”

Earlier this week, the resort operator said the fire, which shut down all electricity to the island, would cause the resort to stay closed until Jan. 31.

No one at the 43-room resort was injured from the fire, and guests were relocated to resorts on St. Lucia and Barbados.

Further information about the resort and its status can be obtained through Elite Island Resorts’ reservations department at (954) 481-8787.
