The Riu Palace Peninsula opened on May 4 in Cancun.

It is Riu Hotels & Resorts' fourth property in Cancun, joining the Riu Cancun, Riu Caribe and Riu Palace Las Americas.

The 562-room resort, located next to the Riu Caribe, is one of 20 worldwide bearing the Riu Palace luxury brand and one of six in Mexico.

Besides the two in Cancun, there are two Riu Palace properties in Playa del Carmen and one each in Los Cabos and the Riviera Nayarit.

The new Cancun resort features six specialty restaurants and a main restaurant, seven bars, water sports, two freshwater pools (one heated in the winter and the second with a Jacuzzi and swimup bar) daily entertainment, a Renova spa and an on-site Mayan ruin discovered during the hotel construction.
