The 10-year-old Tides Riviera Maya on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula has been expanded, renovated and renamed. The resort is now the Viceroy Riviera Maya.
The Tides and Viceroy brands are owned by Viceroy Hotel Group (formerly Kor Hotel Group).
The beachside resort has been expanded to 41 villas from 30, and includes a new entrance, restaurant and fitness center.
The Viceroy Riviera Maya is 40 miles south of Cancun and three miles north of Playa del Carmen. It opened in 2002 as Ikai del Mar before becoming the Tides Riviera Maya four years later.
There are seven other Viceroy hotels, including properties in Miami, Anguilla, Abu Dhabi and Santa Monica, Calif. This year, L'Ermitage Beverly Hills is scheduled to become a Viceroy hotel, and the Viceroy Maldives is slated to open.
