Scrub Island completes villa project

By Gay Nagle Myers
Scrub IslandScrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina in the British Virgin Islands, which opened in mid-2010 on a private island one mile from Tortola, completed its villa expansion with the opening of seven hillside properties.

Impetus for the villa project was the “growing interest in these accommodations from extended families and couples seeking an intimate honeymoon locale,” according to Martin Smith, managing director.

Villas range in size from two to four bedrooms with 3,000 to 6,00 square feet each. Each offers large balconies and terraces, high-end kitchen appliances, enclosed rain showers and infinity or plunge pools.

Interiors feature local art, natural stone flooring, bamboo ceiling fans and large bathrooms.

Year-round rates start at $2,250 per night for the two-bedroom unit; food and beverages are not included.

Scrub Island joined Marriott International’s Autograph Collection of independent hotels in December.
