Hotels Volcano House to reopen under Aqua management By Danny King / March 19, 2013 Share 1 -- -- The Volcano House on Hawaii’s Big Island will have a soft reopening on Friday after being shut down for more than three years. Hawaii-based Aqua Hospitality is taking over management of the site, which includes 33 hotel rooms in the main structure and a campground with 10 upgraded cabins.Located near the rim of Kilauea and operating in some form since 1877, Volcano House will operate within Aqua’s Monogram Hotel Collection. It is getting about $7 million in upgrades from both the U.S. National Park Service and owner Ortega Family Enterprises.The property, located in Volcanoes National Park, closed on New Year’s Day 2010. It will fully reopen this summer with the addition of a restaurant that will have views of Halemaumau Crater.Follow Danny King on Twitter @dktravelweekly.
