Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide will debut its Westin brand in the Dominican Republic in late 2013.

The 204-room Westin Puntacana will be located in the Playa Blanca area of the Puntacana Resort & Club, a 26-square-mile complex that includes Tortuga Bay resort, Six Senses Spa, the Puntacana Ecological Foundation, four residential communities, a marina, nine restaurants, a shopping village, 45 holes of golf and the Punta Cana Airport.

The Westin resort will include meeting and wedding facilities, a pool and grill, a lobby bar, a cigar bar, a kids’ club, walking trails, a spa, a business center and a gym.

Guests will have access to the amenities at the Puntacana Resort & Club.

Westin had planned to open its first resort, the Roko Ki Beach & Golf Resort, in Punta Cana several years ago, but those plans were derailed by the global financial crisis in 2008-09.

The Westin Puntacana will be the second Starwood property to open in the Dominican Republic.

The 122-room Four Points by Sheraton Puntacana Village, also being developed by Grupo Puntacana, is scheduled to open in November.

Within the Caribbean, the Westin flag currently flies in Aruba, Grand Cayman and St. Maarten.
