Groupon website aims to be one-stop shop for Vegas goods, services

By Damon Hodge

Groupon, a shopping website that offers a daily deal on the best local goods, services and cultural events, launched in Las Vegas on Jan. 25.

Using the principles of collective buying, Groupon negotiates deals with top businesses; subscribers benefit by receiving daily emails about deals offered by companies throughout the area.

These deals are only activated if a minimum number of people agree to buy, which encourages subscribers to share the promotion via social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter. Las Vegas is Groupon's 32nd city.

"Groupon will help both locals and tourists explore Vegas by featuring the best things to see, do, eat and buy, all while saving them money in the process," Groupon founder Andrew Mason said in a statement.
