Saltzburg to head TripAdvisor diversification June 04, 2008 Share 1 -- TripAdvisor, the online travel review site that has been aggressively expanding beyond its hotel roots, has hired travel industry veteran Bryan Saltzburg to help continue its diversification.Saltzburg, a former vice president at Travelocity, was hired for the newly created position of general manager of new initiatives. He is responsible for creating new businesses and driving growth by leveraging existing TripAdvisor assets in new ways.Steve Kaufer, founder and CEO of TripAdvisor, said in a statement that Saltzburg's "success at building and launching products based on complex, multipart transactions will be very valuable as TripAdvisor continues to grow and diversify."Over the last year-and-a-half, TripAdvisor has bought more than a half-dozen companies, expanding its online, consumer-driven review sites to include sites like CruiseCritic.com and SeatGuru.com.Saltzburg said he was lured by the company's potential."Even though TripAdvisor is a leader in this space, it's still in its infancy and continues to look for new ways to develop deeper relationships with its customers," he said."I was really brought in to look at those new ways."Saltzburg declined to give details of what he is working on, saying only that he is currently focused on a project dubbed internally as Nor'easter, named after the storm systems that hit the East Coast.
