Travelzoo reports a small profit April 28, 2009 Share 1 -- Internet media company Travelzoo, a publisher of travel deals, posted a $338,000 profit for the first quarter of 2009, bettering a $1 million loss a year earlier.Revenue was up 11.6%, to $23.4 million."The number of subscribers to our publications grew during the first quarter by 866,000, or 6%, to 15.5 million," said Travelzoo CEO Holger Bartel. "This is the fastest quarter-over-quarter growth rate in subscribers that we have seen since 2005."Operating losses in Europe and Asia were a drag on earnings, and those losses had no tax benefit, said the company. Consequently, Travelzoo's income tax expense was $2.3 million; its income before taxes was $2.6 million.
