TripAdvisor, in its first earnings report as a public company, reported a 19% jump in fourth-quarter profit on continued gains in click-based advertising.
The travel-review website was spun off from Expedia in December.
Net income increased to $22 million from $18.4 million, while revenue climbed 30% to $137.8 million.
Click-based advertising rose 24% from a year earlier and accounted for 72% of TripAdvisor’s revenue. Display advertising was up 26%, while subscription-based revenue doubled from a year earlier to $15.1 million.
TripAdvisor generated 52% of its fourth-quarter revenue from the U.S. and 14% from the U.K.
For the year, TripAdvisor’s net profit rose 28% to $177.7 million. Revenue was up 31% to $637.1 million.
TripAdvisor shares were down about 5% in after-hours trading after its fourth-quarter earnings of 16 cents a share missed the 24-cent estimate by analysts in a Thomson Reuters survey.
Founded in 2000, TripAdvisor has more than 50 million monthly unique users and operates websites in more than 30 countries.
