G Adventures guarantees all 2013 departures

By Michelle Baran
Small-group adventure operator G Adventures is guaranteeing all departures, beginning Jan. 1.

Tour operators often guarantee some, but not all, of their departures. If non-guaranteed departures don't have enough passengers, it is common for tour operators to cancel them or combine them with other departures.

G Adventures founder Bruce Poon Tip said adventure operators have “traditionally played a numbers game, with a minimum number of bookings required for a trip to depart.”

“We’ve invested a lot of time perfecting our yield management, balancing demand for trips and forecasting sales. We’re confident we’ve got it right and can make agents’ jobs that much easier.”

With G Adventures guaranteeing that all trips depart, agents can lock in bookings and book earlier flights and get lower airfares, Poon Tip said.
