Hanratty leaves Travel Impressions, joins Mark Travel

By Michelle Baran

John Hanratty has left his leadership role at Travel Impressions (TI) and has joined The Mark Travel Corporation where he will head up a newly formed groups division and oversee the wholesaler’s managed brands.

Hanratty most recently served as TI's executive vice president and general manager.

Hanratty’s departure from Travel Impressions comes four months after Apple Leisure Group completed its acquisition of Travel Impressions. At that time, then-CEO Steve Gorga transitioned to an advisory position with American Express, which had owned TI prior to the Apple acquisition, and Hanratty was tapped to take the helm at TI.

John HanrattyWith Hanratty’s departure from TI, Tim Mullen assumed leadership of TI as president and CEO, effective immediately. Mullen will no longer serve as co-president of Apple Vacations. He had shared that position with brother Jeff Mullen.

“The Travel Impressions and American Express Vacations brands will remain intact and will continue to be managed separately from Apple Vacations, while coexisting within the Apple Leisure Group portfolio,” Travel Impressions said in a release on Wednesday.

At Mark Travel, Hanratty will be establishing a newly formed groups division. He has also been tasked with accelerating the growth and development of the Mark Travel vacation brands, with specific emphasis on the East Coast-origin markets.

“John will head up a new business initiative that will accelerate our global growth,” said Mike Going, president of Mark Travel brand Funjet Vacations, who also oversees Blue Sky Tours and TNT Vacations. Hanratty will be working alongside Going at Mark Travel, but the company has new yet divulged any additional information as to what the new business initiative that Hanratty is overseeing will entail.

“I believe that John is uniquely skilled to help us grow and develop a strategic presence on the East Coast,” Mark Travel Chairman Bill La Macchia, Jr., said in a statement. “We will be making continued investments to support our growth initiatives.”

Tim_MullenMark Travel’s move to invest in growth initiatives comes as Apple Leisure Group has been aggressively expanding its business.

Following its June acquisition of Travel Impressions, Apple Leisure Group in September announced the acquisition of CheapCaribbean.com. Apple’s portfolio now includes Apple Vacations; Travel Impressions; AMResorts; AMStar, a destination management company; Unlimited Vacation Club, a members-only travel club; and CheapCaribbean.com.

Going oversees the company's owned brands, including Funjet Vacations, Blue Sky Tours, and TNT Vacations. Mark Travel also owns My Wellness Vacation and Mark International, an inbound receptive operator. Hanratty will oversee the company’s managed brands, including Southwest Vacations, MGM Resorts Vacations, and LGBT tour operation Brand g.

Hanratty will begin his new position with Mark Travel on Oct. 21.
