On NTA's 2010 advocacy agenda: hotel tax issues, Cuba travel

By Michelle Baran

The National Tour Association's board of directors established the organization's priority advocacy issues for the year.

The eight issues are:

  • Hotel occupancy taxes;
  • U.S. entry/exit procedures, visa issuance and expansion of the Visa Waiver Program;
  • Grants for destination marketing organizations and non-profit organizations;
  • Airline policies that impact travel sellers;
  • Lifting of the U.S. travel ban to Cuba;
  • Implementation of the Travel Promotion Act;
  • National Parks and public lands access and marketing funds; and
  • Passage of highway and Federal Aviation Administration authorization bills.

These issues will be discussed with elected officials during NTA's 2010 Grassroots Symposium, scheduled for Feb. 8 to 10, in Washington. Congressman Bill Delahunt, (D-Mass), chief House sponsor of the Travel Promotion Act and the Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act, will be making remarks at the February Symposium.
