Agent Issues Cruise Holidays survey hints at lower Med prices in 2013 By Tom Stieghorst / December 26, 2012 Share 1 -- Cruise Holidays issued its annual trend survey that suggests European pricing could be lower in 2013, while Caribbean cruise pricing is flat and Alaska prices are up. The survey found that for 2013 bookings made as of mid-December, prices for a 12-day Mediterranean cruise average about $35 per person, per day, less than at the same time a year ago. "However, keep in mind that this number reflects reservations that go back to early 2012, when demand may not have been as strong as it is now," said Mark Schiffner, vice president of Cruise Holidays International. The same data for a seven-day Alaska cruise shows prices ahead of last year by about $20 per person, per day. The survey shows the top five cruise booking destinations as the Caribbean (55%); Europe, including river cruises (13%); Alaska (8.5%); Bermuda (4.5%); and Hawaii (3%). That order is unchanged from 2012. The survey is based on bookings by 550 Cruise Holidays agents in the U.S. and Canada. Follow Tom Stieghorst on Twitter @tstravelweekly.
