The Jamaica Tourist Board's annual Fall
Destination Product Launch takes to the roadways again with a
kickoff Sept. 11 in Charlotte, N.C., before wrapping up Nov. 12 in
Davenport, Iowa, after a two-month swing of major U.S. cities.
The fall sales
blitz will focus on Jamaica's ongoing property renovations and
expansions; new products; and enhancements to meetings and
conventions facilities.
"Jamaica is in the
midst of a development surge, with a variety of new construction
throughout the island's main resort areas as well as refurbishments
to existing resorts and attractions," said Basil Smith, director of
tourism.
More than 15,000
new rooms are coming on stream in Jamaica over the next five years,
according to Smith.
These include
several planned luxury developments, including Harmony Cove Resort
in Trelawny; a residential complex at Goldeneye at Oracabessa on
the north coast; and a condominium and villa project at the Palmyra
Resort & Spa at Rose Hall near Montego Bay.
In addition, a
multi-billion-dollar transformation is underway at both
international airports in Kingston and Montego Bay and a new
convention center is being built in Montego Bay, scheduled to open
in December 2008.
