Nina MeyerNina Meyer was unanimously re-elected to her second term as president and chair of ASTA Sunday.

She had been opposed by Jason Coleman, immediate past president of the Young Professional Society (YPS) and at-large director for ASTA's national board, but Coleman withdrew his candidacy at the beginning of the ASTA board meeting Sunday.

ASTA issued a statement calling Coleman's withdrawal "a well-received demonstration of unity and common vision for ASTA's future."

Meyer is also acting CEO of ASTA while the organization conducts a search for a successor to Tony Gonchar, who resigned in August.

Meyer has been active in working with the YPS, supporting its efforts to become a full-fledged chapter instead of a committee.

Meyer has been in the travel business since 1976. Soon after she started her career, she opened an agency, Vision Travel.

Through Vision Travel, Meyer developed a tour operation for Laker, Arrow and Eastern Airlines.

In 2001, she merged Vision Travel with several other agencies to create TraveLeaders.

Meyer became the national director of leisure at TraveLeaders in 2005 and worked to develop preferred vendor relationships, generate revenue, expand the independent contractor program and mentor all management staff.

She also developed and led other programs to promote leisure travel. Meyer also acted as TraveLeaders' liaison with Virtuoso.

In 2008, the Travel Acquisitions Group bought TraveLeaders and subsequently changed its name to Travel Leaders.

In April 2009, Meyer joined Express Travel as director of sales and marketing.

Meyer served four years as president of ASTA’s South Florida chapter and currently is past-president of the International SKAL Club of Miami. She has also served on numerous task forces and committees for both ASTA and Virtuoso. Before becoming president and chair of ASTA, Meyer was ASTA’s national treasurer.
