NACTA and ASTA working together at convention

By Kate Rice
The National Association of Commissioned Travel Agents (NACTA) and ASTA will hold their first co-convention this year, with the ASTA Global Convention scheduled Sept. 16 to 19 in Miami.

The event precedes the NACTA Annual Convention, Sept. 19 to 22 in Fort Lauderdale.

The two associations are offering a rate of $399 to attend both events. That covers admission to events and a motorcoach transfer from Miami to Fort Lauderdale.

ASTA acquired NACTA in 2000.

Members from either association can register for $199 per travel agent, and non-member agents can attend for $299 (which includes a one-year NACTA membership).

NACTA will offer participants educational workshops and seminars.

“This is the first time that we’ve done this,” said Ann van Leeuwen, NACTA’s vice president. She added that NACTA chapter directors and ASTA chapter presidents have been meeting locally and hosting joint events.

“We can accomplish so much more if the two associations work together instead of independently,” she said.

ASTA chapter presidents and NACTA chapter directors will hold a joint meeting in Seattle June 16 to 18, van Leeuwen said.

  • Consumer media discover that travel agents do exist

"Contrary to some thoughts, travel agents do exist ... We are usually able to get clients better prices, and we know we can see that clients have better experiences. And as our personal motto is: Our Service Travels With You."
