The presidents of three Travel Leaders Group units won three of the four vacant director-at-large seats on the ASTA board of directors.
They are Roger Block, Travel Leaders Franchise Group; Jackie Friedman, Nexion; and John Lovell, Vacation.com. The fourth winner was Jason Coleman of Jason Coleman Inc. in Los Angeles, who had been sitting on the board representing the Chapter Presidents Council.
Two of the defeated candidates were incumbents: Susan Aft of Discount Travel and Cruise in Atlanta and Laura Rodriguez-Verbera of Marina Tours and Travel in Phoenix.
The other two candidates were Jean Covelli of Travel Team/American Express in Buffalo, N.Y., and Michael Dixon of Travelink/American Express in Nashville.
In addition, the National Association of Career Travel Agents for the first time elected a director to the ASTA board. Dan Smith of Travel by Dan/Caribbean Adventures in Seattle defeated Jesse Mackey of J and L Travel in Homosassa, Fla.
Incumbent directors-at-large who remain on the board are Lois Howes, Superior Travel, Freeport, N.Y.; John Lovell, Breton Village Travel Services, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Nina Meyer, Express Travel, Miami; Scott Pinheiro, Santa Cruz (Calif.) Travel; and Karl Rosen, Town Centre Travel and Cruises, Palm Desert, Calif.
The Chapter Presidents Council (CPC) recently elected the following chapter presidents to sit on the board: Leo Zabinski (Carolinas chapter and CPC chair), Ryan McGredy (Young Professionals Society chapter) and Marilyn Zelaya (Northern California chapter).
