Travel insurance sales have increased more than 10% since the Iceland ash cloud crippled Europe travel in 2010, according to Access America.
“We are most able to tie the occurring of catastrophic events to an increase in interest from consumers, right around the point in time that these things occur,” said Beth Godlin, managing director of Mondial Assistance USA (parent company of Access America).
“Certainly, these types of catastrophic events get people more aware that there are products that can help. It makes people aware that things can go on and that travel is exciting and somewhat unknown, and that there are products out there that help from a financial or a service aspect.”
