The Marley Resort & Spa on Cable Beach in Nassau, Bahamas, officially opened its teak front doors on July 4, and in a style true to the late reggae artist, it was all very low key.
The hotel is very much a family business. Bob Marley's widow, Rita, is the owner of the 16-suite hotel that once served as the Marley family's summer home. The resort features the icon's music, daughter Cedella Marley's clothing line and works by African, Bahamian and Jamaican artists.
Suites are named after Marley's song titles, such as Lively Up Yourself, Positive Vibration, Easy Shankin', Three Little Birds and Kinky Reggae. The suites feature whirlpool tubs, chic furnishings, aromatherapy amenities, flat-screen TVs, high-speed Internet access and in-room Bose entertainment systems.
Three Royal Suites have mahogany furniture, African prints, hardwood floors and oceanfront views. The Legend suite has a separate living room, a signature Marley bed and a stocked wet bar.
Guest amenities include personal concierge service, 24-hour in-room dining, numerous tour excursions, the Natural Mystic Spa, oceanfront dining, several pools and live entertainment.
Rates start at $450 per room, per night, double. Continental breakfast is included but the 22% tax and service fees are not.
