Sabre Holdings has launched a GDS listing that highlights eco-friendly hotels.

Under Sabre’s “Eco-Certified Hotel Program,” more than 4,700 hotels worldwide are highlighted for sustainability efforts that may relate to energy use, water use or other operations.

Sabre, which used the Green Hotel Directory from Travelocity as the base for its list, said hotels were vetted by a third party to ensure that they abide by a set of criteria outlined by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

Sabre says such a listing will gain favor among agents because two-thirds of travelers believe their travel habits can affect the environment, according to PhoCusWright, while more than half of the meeting planners in a recent survey said they will only book meetings in sustainable venues.

The Eco-Certified Hotel list is available to the more than 180,000 customers who use the Sabre Red Workplace platform.
