NYC, American try to stimulate demand with fare deals

August 19, 2009

New York City has partnered with American Airlines to help stimulate domestic travel to the Big Apple.

American is offering ultra-low fares from five cities if flyers book on AA.com. The deals are available through Friday, Aug. 21 for travel from Sept. 15 through Dec. 12, with some dates embargoed around the Thanksgiving holiday period.

One-way fares from Los Angeles and San Francisco start at $109. Also, there are specials for Dallas/Fort Worth ($99), Chicago ($84) and Miami ($69). The one-way fares are based on roundtrip purchases.

The lowest fares are for Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday travel, American said.

NYC & Company, the city’s tourism marketing arm, said the deal marks the first time it has partnered with an airline for such a targeted fare sale.

All information summarizing the deals and travel itineraries can be found at nycgo.com/itineraries.

This type of advertising makes me want to vomit. "The one-way fares are based on round trip travel." Then lets add the fees, taxes, bag fees, pillow/blanket fees, sandwiches, and multiply those by 2 as well. Then figure in the restricted travel dates and days of the week that the "fare" is available. Let nycgo take the bookings!
