Sun Country Airlines said it would no longer keep passengers sitting in an idle plane for more than four hours, two days after Sun Country patrons were stranded on the tarmac for six hours.

A delayed Sun Country flight from New York Kennedy to Minneapolis-St. Paul on Friday included a taxi time of five hours and 45 minutes, said the airline. According to Sun Country’s new policy, a plane will return to the gate area to disembark passengers after four hours.

"The flight delay on Friday was unacceptable from the customers’ perspective as well as the airline," said Sun Country CEO Stan Gadek.

Gadek said he supports passenger-rights legislation. "The Senate’s initiative is on the mark," he said.
