Increase in Turks and Caicos hotel tax delayed

October 20, 2009

Imposition of a 1% increase in the hotel tax in the Turks and Caicos has been postponed to Nov. 1.

Gov. Gordon Wetherell granted the delay to give hoteliers time to notify travel agents and tour operators of the increase from 10% to 11%, according to the Turks and Caicos Sun.

Caesar Campbell, executive director of the Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association, had asked the governor for the postponement.

The tax was scheduled to take effect on Oct. 1, but Campbell told the governor that no one in the industry had been informed.
