November 13, 2009

Oasis of the Seas in Fort LauderdaleThe Oasis of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International's newest and largest ship, arrived at its home port of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale Friday after a 14-day transatlantic crossing from Turku, Finland.

Pre-inaugural festivities kick off Nov. 19 with a performance by pop music artist Rihanna, followed by a preview of the ship on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Nov. 20.

The official naming ceremony for the Oasis of the Seas will take place Nov. 30 in Fort Lauderdale with seven godmothers, one for each neighborhood -- Central Park, Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, Pool & Sports Zone, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, Entertainment Place and Youth Zone -- on the 16-deck, 225,282-ton vessel.

At full capacity, the Oasis will carry 5,400 guests in 2,700 staterooms.

Prior to its inaugural cruise, updates and webisodes will be available at www.oasisoftheseas.com or via Twitter.

I weigh in on the side of not buying it, nor selling it. There are better options.

In this instance, the joy is truly on the journey, not the destination. I board Oasis this afternoon and expect it will be more Wows than I can count. I think it will boost cruise sales in the long run as folks will see it's more than a naseating boat ride that it was 25 years ago.

OMG - what a sight to see! We too, will have the opportunity to cruise this next month and I for one will have eyes wide open to determine how the RCCL group will be able to handle the flow of crowds onboard as well as getting on and off the ship. To me, it's questionable - time will tell. Ian

I can't wait to go on Oasis next week. she may be big but that means more options. I was on Independence a couple of months ago, 3,600 pax and we had no problems getting off. I love the fact that you can pre book shows on Oasis I have booked Frozen in Time, Hairspray and Oasis of Dreams, queuing for Ice show tickets was the only thing I didn't like on Inde.
